Preparing for College Admissions

Our courses of study are designed to maximize a student's ability to read effectively, think critically, and communicate effectively. Our Harvard trained instructors have mastered the art of teaching these skills and students normally score over 700 on the Critical Reading and Writing sections of the test and usually receive a perfect score of 8 or a near perfect score of 7 on the essay section of the test.

Our services and courses are designed to equip students with the values and skills needed for a meaningful and successful life. Our objectives are to bring out the best in students, help them find their path in life, and assure that they receive the best educations at schools that will develop all of their talents. Our exceptional faculty, recruited from such schools as Harvard, Columbia, Brown, and Cambridge Universities, is equipped to provide all that our students need to succeed.

Steps in Preparation for Admissions

Individual Assessment:

Individual Assessment is the first and most crucial step in creating an admissions plan for a student. A thorough assessment of a student’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, and personality is fundamental to both improving test score performance, creating a compelling personal statement, and selecting the schools where the student will flourish academically, personally, and socially. The assessment process consists of a series of tests followed by a number of in-depth personal interviews.

Based on a final evaluation, recommendations will be made regarding enrollment in one or more of the following courses, depending on a particular student’s needs. Each course requires 2 hours of online instruction each week and minimum homework of 90 minutes each day:

Intensive 6 week Grammar Course: This course will provide a foundation for the verbal sections of the SAT, ACT, and Admissions Essa, along with developing general analytical reading and writing skills.

Intensive 6 Week Critical Reading Program: This course will prepare students for the SAT and ACT reading exams and also enhance critical analytical skills in approaching written texts.

Intensive 6 Week Writing Program: This course will introduce advanced stylistic skills to enhance writing fluency for the essay section of the SAT, and Admissions Essays.

Intensive 6 Week Math Review: This course begins with an assessment of a student’s basic and advanced knowledge and application of mathematical concepts. It then focuses on the individual deficiencies that a student needs to correct in order to excel.

8-10 Week Admission Essays and College Selection Course: In this course students will create a compelling personal statement that will make them stand out from other students and invite a more serious consideration of their application. Based on the student’s prior Individual Assessment, a list of schools will be selected based on individual interests, career goals, and personal preferences. The goal of school selection is to find the best institutions most suited to the student’s needs and goals, a place where a student will truly flourish.

Once schools have been selected, intensive work will begin on constructing the personal statement and supplemental essays. In addition to grades and test scores, the personal statement is the most critical document in the admissions portfolio and accounts for 50% of the admissions decision. The personal statement focuses on showing how the student is an exceptional applicant as a result of training, interests, and life experiences. This is done not only through the content of the essay but also its narrative style. Just as importantly, when combined with the Secondary Statements, it makes the strongest case for why a student is particularly suited to the school applied to, the contributions that the student will make to the incoming class, and the contributions that will be made as an active alumnus/a.

This is a very large project that will include 2 to 3 weekly 1 on 1 sessions with a member of our senior staff where the student will be guided in:

  • Creating the raw material for the personal statement and supplemental essays. This includes:

    • Generating the basic information for the essays based on the students interests, achievements, and life experiences;

    • Matching the foregoing with the student profile each school looks for;

  • Assembling the material into a compelling narrative

  • Writing a 1st draft of the personal statement and supplemental essays;

  • Continuous editing and rewriting to produce a compelling personal statement and convincing supplemental essays.
